Mind Muscle Connection

The mind is a powerful tool, it can make or break your belief of whether you can lift more, run faster or keep going. The mind, brain and central nervous system allow for the ability to think, then move. The mind muscle connection is the ability to use your mind to control your muscle, allowing you to lift, push, flex and feel the muscle being activated.

Lifting weight is not just about doing the action, but really focusing on the process, both physically and mentally.

Being physically strong and going to the gym isn’t just about being buff, it’s also about being mentally strong, disciplined and proving to yourself that you have what it takes. By showing up, by lifting more, by always improving, your mental physique is increased. When you know you can show up, and lift more and push yourself to the limit, you know you can achieve many other things, and push through the tough times and come out the other side a stronger individual.

The study that compared people actually going to gym, versus people thinking the same process (picturing themselves lifting), found that the thought helped gain muscle. The mind and the thought allowed people to develop muscle growth, without the physical component. This study was completed by Joe Dispenza, the writer of Becoming Supernatural, a book that I highly recommend.

So, if it's not just about being muscular and physically strong, how can we develop our mental strength too?

Studies suggest that Creatine Monohydrate can aid in cognitive function and memory, like this study.

You may have heard of the powerful mushroom “Lion’s Mane”, a mushroom that is said to “improve cognition” and “increase the release of nerve growth factor” as stated by this article. While many studies are based around cognitive decline, there is the possibility that positive effects can be enhanced rather than treating a condition.

Supplements that are used with the aim to increase cognitive performance, or mental capability are called nootropics or smart drugs. Remember that water makes up a huge part of our intake and needs, so be sure to read up on maximising the benefits of water

There is a chance that a stronger mind, and then a connection to the muscle, could create more muscle mass and strength.
